Tech enthusiasts salivate each time they hear of a new venture from Apple. This global tech giant still follows the trailblazing path of Steve Jobs, aiming to bring innovative, useful, and unexpected products to the market. Similarly, Google has established an image as a company that streamlines existing technology into smarter, more user-friendly applications. The world is watching both companies with added scrutiny since both Google and Apple are expected to unveil new, wearable devices that will quickly outdate our Smartphones and tablets. What could be so exciting? Think of putting on your glasses each morning and suddenly being able to record videos, surf the web, or talk to friends. Try the same thing with your watch. Revolutionary, eh?

Google Glass

The web has been abuzz with talk of futuristic glasses being secretly manufactured by Google for months. However, the company recently went public with the new technology through well-planned and highly anticipated showings. One such event was the reportedly unplanned subway ride by Google co-founder Sergey Brin (who happened to be testing out Google Glass). The multi-billionaire was caught taking public transportation in a pic from an “augmented-reality enthusiast.” Many speculators on the web cried foul, arguing that the chance encounter was staged as a publicity stunt. But, marketing trick or not, it worked. Next, Google Glass made a more formal appearance in a futuristic runway show by fashion designer Diane von Furstenburg. Models strutted down the catwalk while wearing the lenses, which allowed them to film the audience. So, what will Google Glass be able to do, and how will it change your life? Besides allowing you to film what you’re doing and take photos, Google Glass can go online via short voice commands and video link you to friends. The plastic parts of the glasses also come in an array of stylish colors, including gray, orange, black, white, and light blue.

So, can a watch change your life? If it possibly could, the folks at Apple are the perfect team to design it. Years ago, no one would have believed how dependent on our phones we would become after the advent of the iPhone. Although there is little that our phones can’t do these days, the iWatch will bring added convenience and portability to existing Apple technology. Although many images are surfing the web of supposed prototypes, no one knows what this device will look like. Some believed that the rumor of the iWatch was false, but a recent patent filing by the company quieted down doubters–and fanned the flames for Apple’s devout leagues of consumers. Most insiders believe that the iWatch will take some time to be ready for market. Plans for the watch will likely call for a sleek, circular band, and the special curved glass needed for such a device will not be ready until 2023.
